Sichtbar vernetzt

Der gute Start der Zusammenarbeit am ZfI wird nach außen nun noch sichtbarer: Im Zusammenhang mit dem Preis des BMBF für herausragende studentische Initiativen im Programm „Welcome – Studierende engagieren sich für Flüchtlinge“, den die studentische „Initiative Deutschkurse für Asylsuchende“ (IDA) Anfang Juli verliehen bekommt, wurde ein Film gedreht; mit der Tagung „Taboo and Transgression: The Power of the (Un)Told in Post-Migrant Society“ agiert das ZfI nun auch wissenschaftlich international und die neuen Publikationsreihen machen Dokumentationen und Forschungsergebnisse künftig nachhaltig nutzbar. Von diesen und weiteren Neuigkeiten berichtet der aktuelle Newsletter. Das ZfI vernetzt sich mit Forschenden der TU Dresden und anderen universitären Standorten, aber auch mit zahlreichen Praxispartnern. Auch hier berichtet der Newsletter von aktuellen Sichtbarkeiten, etwa der Ausstellung „Frieden machen“.

Sichtbar werden bedeutet auch, konkret, fassbar, klar wahrnehmbar zu werden. Hierfür ist die neue Ordnung und Struktur des ZfI grundlegend. Neu wird das ZfI von einem Vorstand geleitet, bestehend aus dem Bereichssprecher (qua Amt) und weiteren bis zu vier ordentlichen Mitgliedern, die durch das Bereichskollegium bestellt werden. Aktuell setzt sich der Vorstand zusammen aus Prof. Dr. Christian Prunitsch (Bereichssprecher), Prof. Dr. Heike Greschke, Prof. Dr. Anke Langner (Gründungsdirektorin des ZfI), Prof. Dr. Joachim Scharloth und mir als Leiterin der Nachwuchsforschungsgruppe.

In der Rubrik „Berichte“ werden wichtige vom ZfI durchgeführte Veranstaltungen des vergangenen Quartals besprochen.

Internationale Tagung „Taboo and Transgression. The Power of the (Un)Told in Post-Migrant-Society“

Unter der Schirmherrschaft und Organisation des ZfI fand am 22. Juni 2017 die internationale Tagung „Taboo and Transgression. The Power of the (Un)Told“ im Vortragssaal der Sächsischen Landesbibliothek - Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB) statt. Dr. Julia Meyer von der SLUB hatte als Kooperationspartnerin der Veranstaltung bereits am Vorabend einen zweisprachigen Workshop zu iranischer Poesie in Deutschland durchgeführt, bei dem u.a. die in Ulm lebende iranische Autorin Massumeh Ziai über Tabus in der Literatur sowie in der Übersetzung von Literatur sprach.

Am Tagungstag selbst wurden sechs unterschiedliche Vortragsthemen zum Thema gesellschaftliche Tabu- und Grenzüberschreitungen in Integrationsprozessen präsentiert. Dr. Simon Weaver von der Brunel University London sprach über Tabus während und nach dem Brexit in Großbritannien und stellte dabei vor allem Satire und Doppeldeutigkeit über rechtspopulistische Politik in den Fokus seiner Ausführungen. Im Anschluss trug Dr. Rosa Lázaro Castellanos von der Universitat de Barcelona Inhalte über das Verhältnis zwischen sozialer Hate Speach und online Hate Speach vor, vor allem im Kontext eines europäischen Neorassismus. Dr. Sara Hägi-Mead und Laura Rind-Menzel von der TU Dresden verdeutlichten im Anschluss anschaulich, welche didaktischen Grenzüberschreitungen, aber auch wertschätzenden Elemente in Orientierungskursmaterialien im Rahmen von Integrationskursen in Deutschland auffindbar sind. Am Nachmittag kam die Tagungsgesellschaft über Tabus in der interkulturellen Kommunikation zwischen der deutschen Mehrheitsgesellschaft und der in Deutschland lebenden arabischstämmigen Bevölkerung ins Gespräch, wozu der Vortrag von Abdelaziz Bouchara von der Université Hassan II in Casablanca einlud. Viele interessierte Fragen wurden auch an Frau Dr. Amanda Haynes gerichtet, die an der University of Limerick in Irland tätig ist. Die Soziologin sprach über Hate Crime und Stigmatisierungen und stellte diesbezüglich aktuelle Fakten vor, die sie aus ihrer Arbeit mit Nonprofit-Organisationen in Irland gewinnen konnte. Den letzten Vortrag hielt Dr. Monika van der Haagen-Wulff von der Universität Köln. Sie sprach über Migrationsdiskurse und die Konstruktion von Angst- und Bedrohungsszenarien. Im Anschluss an eine thematisch sehr vielfältige und intensive Podiumsdiskussion mit den Vortragenden des gesamten Tages, wurde die Tagung durch einen Workshop mit Videoclips und Kurzlesungen des in Berlin lebenden Syrers Firas Alshater abgerundet. Der Comedian, Filmemacher und Kameramann berichtete humorvoll von seinen Erlebnissen und Gefühlen über sein "neues" Leben in Deutschland und unterhielt die begeisterten Gäste.

An dieser Stelle möchte sich das ZfI noch mal herzlich bei allen Teilnehmenden und Mitwirkenden für Ihre wertschätzenden wie vielfältigen Beiträge bedanken, die einen gelungenen Austausch zu wesentlichen, gegenwärtigen Fragen ermöglichten.

2. Ausbildungsphase der Refugee Law Clinic Dresden

Die am ZfI angesiedelte Refugee Law Clinic Dresden (RLC) konnte im Sommersemester 2017 in die 2. Phase des Ausbildungszyklus für angehende studentische Rechtsberater*innen starten.

Bestandteile der Ausbildung in diesem Semester waren u.a. eine Workshopreihe, Fallpräsentationen der Teilnehmer*innen sowie ein Kolloquium. Parallel zu den Veranstaltungen an der Universität haben die Teilnehmer*innen die Möglichkeit bei der Beratung des Sächsischen Flüchtlingsrat e.V. zu hospitieren, um an die eigene Beratungstätigkeit heranangeführt zu werden.

Für die Workshopreihe wurden universitätsexterne Referent*innen aus verschiedenen Fachbereichen eingeladen. U.a. hat die Hochschulgruppe Amnesty International Dresden die wichtigsten Herkunftsländer Geflüchteter vorgestellt, Vertreter der Refugee Law Clinic Leipzig haben aus ihrer Erfahrung berichtet und Frau Dipl.-Psych. Sylvia Kummer von der Trauma-Ambulanz erklärte, welche Auswirkungen eine posttraumatische Belastungsstörung haben kann und was man im Umgang mit Traumatisierten beachten sollte. Nachdem die Studierenden in den Semesterferien ein vierwöchiges Praktikum absolvierten, wurden die gesammelten Erfahrungen im Rahmen von Fallvorstellungen mit den anderen Teilnehmer*innen geteilt. Gegen Ende des Semesters wird Dr. Moritz Gieß ein Kolloquium zur Sachverhaltsermittlung im Asylverfahren geben, welches mit einer mündlichen Prüfungsleistung abgeschlossen wird. Haben die Teilnehmer*innen nach der Klausur im letzten Semester diese Prüfung bestanden, können sie ab Oktober als studentische Rechtsberater*innen Geflüchtete unterstützen. Infos zur RLC.

Studentische Initiative IDA unter den ersten drei Preisträgern des „BMBF Welcome Preises“

Die Studentische Initiative IDA (Initiative Deutschkurse für Asylsuchende) an der TU Dresden wurde in die Gruppe der ersten drei Preisträger für den „Preis des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung für herausragende studentische Initiativen im Programm Welcome – Studierende engagieren sich für Flüchtlinge“ gewählt. Welchen der ersten drei Plätze IDA belegt, wird bei der Preisverleihung am 5. Juli 2017 in Berlin bekannt gegeben. Dort wird auch ein Kurzfilm präsentiert, der über IDA gedreht wurde.

IDA ist aus einer studentischen Gruppe hervorgegangen, die von September 2015 bis April 2016 ehrenamtlich Sprachkurse und ABC-Tische für Geflüchtete in den Erstaufnahmeeinrichtungen auf dem Gelände der TU Dresden organisierte. Inzwischen vermittelt und koordiniert die Initiative vielfältige freiwillige Hilfsangebote von Studierenden für Geflüchtete und entwickelt Strukturen, die zur Integration Geflüchteter beitragen bzw. zum interkulturellen Austausch zwischen Geflüchteten und Studierenden. IDA wird seit April 2016 vom DAAD im Programm „Welcome – Studierende engagieren sich für Flüchtlinge“ sowie von der „Studentenstiftung Dresden“ gefördert.

Zu den wichtigen Projektbausteinen gehört u.a. das Patenschaftsprogramm „Buddy-Programm“, das geflüchtete Studierende und studierfähige Geflüchtete mit Studierenden Dresdner Hochschulen zusammenbringt. In den „Sprachkursen von Geflüchteten für Studierende“, einem weiteren Teilprojekt der Initiative, vermitteln Geflüchtete Grundkenntnisse ihrer Herkunftssprachen und -kulturen an Studierende der TU Dresden (und anderer Hochschulen) und werden so im Sinne eines gegenseitigen Austausches aktiv. Schließlich stellt IDA mit freiwilligen studentischen Lehrer*innen begleitende Angebote zum Erlernen der deutschen Sprache für Geflüchtete in unterschiedlichen Vermittlungsformen bereit.

Unterstützt wird IDA durch das Akademische Auslandsamt der TU Dresden (Verwaltung), das ZfI der TU Dresden (Koordination) sowie von engagierten Mitarbeiter*innen der Fakultät Sprach-, Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften. Infos zu IDA.

Neue Publikationsreihen am ZfI

Das ZfI lanciert zwei neue Publikationsreihen, die in elektronischer Form und open-access-basiert herausgegeben werden: Zum einen die für die anwendungsorientierte Vermittlung von Forschungs- und Veranstaltungsprojekten angelegte Reihe „Praxismaterialien des Zentrums für Integrationsstudien“, zum anderen die Reihe „Theoretische Beiträge zur Integrationsforschung“ zur Vermittlung grundlagenorientierter Forschung innerhalb der wissenschaftlichen Community.

Band 1 der „Praxismaterialien des Zentrums für Integrationsstudien“ stellt die Dokumentation des 1. DAFF-Fachtages „Deutsch von Anfang an für Flüchtlinge fördern. DaF-Angebote für Geflüchtete im Spannungsfeld von Theorie und Praxis, Institution und Ehrenamt“, verfasst von Ann-Kathrin Kobelt und Anja Centeno García, dar und wird voraussichtlich Anfang August 2017 erscheinen. Forschung

Die Rubrik „Forschung“ stellt ein aktuelles am ZfI bearbeitetes Forschungsprojekt vor und gibt Einblicke in aktuelle Forschungsfragen.

„SprIntegration“

Das Dissertationsprojekt „SprIntegration“ von Ann-Kathrin Kobelt rekonstruiert Retro-, Introspektionen und Erwartungen von Sprach- und Integrationsmittler*innen (SprInt) und beleuchtet damit ein relativ neues Berufsbild mit integrativem Potenzial für die Aufnahme- und Zuwanderungsgesellschaft.

Die Ausbildung zur*zum SprInt ist eine Reaktion auf den Mangel plurilingualer, interkultureller und integrativer Angebote in den Gesellschaften Deutschlands. Zudem wird durch die SprInt-Ausbildung und deren beruflicher Tätigkeit der Ressourcenanerkennung und -nutzung von Menschen mit Migrationserfahrungen Rechnung getragen. Im Forschungsprojekt steht die Frage im Vordergrund, welche Beiträge die Expertise der SprInt zum Integrationsdiskurs beisteuern kann, um Herausforderungen der Handlungsfelder zur Integration differenzierter zu beschreiben.

Das übergreifende Ziel des Forschungsprojektes ist es, die Einstellungen der SprInt als Expert*innen der (eigenen) Integration aber auch die der aufnehmenden Gesellschaft von und an Personen mit eigener Migrationsgeschichte zu rekonstruieren, miteinander in Verbindung zu bringen und für die Integrationsforschung und Integrationspraxis nutzbar zu machen.

Im Rahmen des Dissertationsprojektes finden Interviews mit SprInt als Expert*innen in ihren Funktionen als Dolmetschende, Informationslieferant*innen, Assistent*innen für Fachkräfte, Beratende und Betreuende statt. Es werden vor allem sprach- und kulturwissenschaftliche Aspekte in Hinblick auf SprInt und gelingende Integration angesprochen.

Am Zentrum für Integrationsstudien sind Forscher*innen aus allen fünf Fakultäten des Bereich Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften der TU Dresden und darüber hinaus beteiligt. Nachrichten aus diesem Netzwerk werden in dieser Rubrik zur Verfügung gestellt.

Ausstellung „Frieden machen“

Im Juni eröffnet die Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung im Deutschen Bundestag eine Ausstellung mit dem Titel „Frieden machen“. Nach der Eröffnung an diesem prominenten Ort wird die Ausstellung durch deutsche Schulen wandern und bietet den Schüler*innen Gelegenheit, sich über internationale Konfliktprävention und die Bearbeitung entsprechender Herausforderungen zu beschäftigen. Kuratiert wurde die Ausstellung von einem vierköpfigen Kurator*innenteam, an dem u.a. auch ZfI-Beiratsmitglied und -Gründungsdirektorin Prof. Dr. Anja Besand beteiligt war. Bereits im März wurde Anja Besand von Staatsministerin Petra Köpping und Innenminister Markus Ulbig in den Beirat des Förderprogramms Weltoffenes Sachsen berufen.

Tagung “Emigration from Nazi-Occupied Europe to British Overseas Territories after 1933”

Vom 13. bis 15. September findet am Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies an der University of London eine von Dr. Swen Steinberg, ZfI-Mitglied und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Sächsische Landesgeschichte der TU Dresden, mitorganisierte Tagung statt, die der Frage der Globalität der Flucht nach 1933 nachgeht. Tagung „Kritik der Rassismus- und Linguizismuskritik“

Am 23. und 24. September 2017 findet in Wien die Tagung „Kritik der Rassismus- und Linguizismuskritik“ statt, die u.a. von ZfI-Mitglied Dr. Hannes Schweiger (Institut für Germanistik der Universität Wien, Arbeitsbereich Deutsch als Zweitsprache) konzipiert wurde. Infos zur Konferenz und Anmeldung.

52. Dozententagung der Sektion Sonderpädagogik der DGFE unter dem Thema „Inklusion im Dialog: Fachdidaktik – Erziehungswissenschaft – Sonderpädagogik“

Ab sofort ist die Anmeldung zur 52. Dozententagung der Sektion Sonderpädagogik der DGFE unter dem Thema „Inklusion im Dialog: Fachdidaktik – Erziehungswissenschaft – Sonderpädagogik“ möglich. Anmeldung hier.

Zugleich möchten wir auf die Pre-conference (20.09.2017, 10:00-14:00 Uhr) für Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen hinweisen. Im Rahmen der Pre-conference werden im Besonderen Methoden für die Analyse von inklusiven Lehr-Lernsettings gemeinsam diskutiert. Es besteht sowohl die Möglichkeit, eigenes Material zur Reflexion zur Verfügung zu stellen, um darüber einen Zugang zur Methode zu erhalten, als auch an dieser Diskussion zwischen Experten teilzuhaben.

Call for Papers für die Internationale Tagung „Transcultural Adaptation“ im November 2018

Im Mittelpunkt des Tagungsprojekts „Transcultural Adaptation“ steht die Erforschung narrativer und medialer Transformationsprozesse an der Schnittstelle zwischen verschiedenen Kulturen, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung aktueller Migrationsdiskurse und postkolonialer Fragestellungen. Dabei wird untersucht, wie sich Erzählungen im Prozess des Kulturtransfers verändern und wie sich dabei zugleich die beteiligten Kulturräume durch die Begegnung mit dem Anderen wandeln. Die internationale Tagung wird von der Professur für Englische Literaturwissenschaft an der TU Dresden unter der Leitung von Dr. Wieland Schwanebeck organisiert. Kooperation des ZfI mit dem Projekt „Migration-Flucht-Bildung. Bildungsorte einer sich öffnenden Stadt“ der LAG pokuBi Sachsen e.V.

Die Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft politisch-kulturelle Bildung Sachsen e. V. ist ein etablierter Träger der Erwachsenenbildung und bietet seit 15 Jahren Fortbildungen u a. für pädagogisch Tätige zu Fragen der pädagogischen Professionalität in der Migrationsgesellschaft. Neben der Durchführung von Bildungsveranstaltungen und Fachtagungen wird Unterstützung von pädagogischen Organisationen im Prozess ihrer migrationsgesellschaftlichen Öffnung angeboten.

Das Projekt „Migration-Flucht-Bildung. Bildungsorte einer sich öffnenden Stadt“ richtet sich an Dresden und hat das Ziel, die Themen Migration und Flucht im Kontext globaler Zusammenhänge als Bildungsinhalte in möglichst vielen Bildungsinstitutionen der Landeshauptstadt zu etablieren. Dabei geht es sowohl darum, dass die Themen Eingang in die Bildungsarbeit (sowie in die öffentlichen Bildungs-/Räume) finden, als auch darum, wie dies geschieht - auf welche Weise, aus welcher Perspektive, mit welchem Ziel. Ein weiteres Ziel des Projektes ist es, Bildungsangebote (Fortbildungen, Workshops) und Bildungsinstitutionen für Migrant*innen und hier insbesondere für Geflüchtete zu öffnen. Hier geht es darum, wie Zugänge überprüft und erleichtert werden können, wie für diese Zielgruppe(n) relevante Inhalte Eingang in die Bildungsarbeit finden, welche Qualifikationen der pädagogisch Tätigen sind dabei bedeutsam und wie Migrant*innen selbst – im Sinne einer handelnden Teilhabe - als (Bildungs-)Akteure eingebunden werden. Dazu wird es im Herbst 2017 eine Veranstaltungsreihe geben, an der auch das ZfI beteiligt ist. Die Auftaktveranstaltung findet am 15. September 2017 abends im Stadtmuseum Dresden statt. 8 Öffentliche Vorträge im Rahmen der internationalen Summer School 2017 zu „Vocational Integration“

Vom 3.-7. Juli 2017 findet die internationale Summer School des Bereich Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften zu „Vocational Integration in Post-Migrant Society“ im Deutschen Hygiene-Museum Dresden statt. Als eine der größten gesamtgesellschaftlichen Aufgaben im Einwanderungsland Deutschland gilt die Integration von Menschen jeglicher Zugehörigkeiten (Ethnie, Alter, Geschlecht etc.) in eine als inklusiv verstandene Gesellschaft, insbesondere die Herausforderung, die Potenziale einer pluralistischen Gesellschaft zu nutzen und zu fördern. Das Themenfeld Integration und Arbeit in der post-migrantischen Gesellschaft ist in diesem Zusammenhang von enormer Bedeutung, da hier wesentlich gesellschaftliche Teilhabe ermöglicht und angesichts von Fachkräftemangel und demografischer Entwicklung auch die Entwicklung des Arbeitsmarktes verbessert werden kann.

Konzipiert und durchgeführt wird die Summer School von der Fakultät Erziehungswissenschaften und dem ZfI, in Kooperation mit dem Deutschen Hygiene-Museum Dresden. Die acht Vorträge (zu Arbeitsmarktintegration, sprachlich-kommunikativen Anforderungen im Beruf, ethnischer Diskriminierung auf dem Arbeitsmarkt) an der Summer School sind öffentlich und können von Interessierten besucht werden. 2. Fachtag „Deutsch für Geflüchtete von Anfang an“

Der am Samstag, den 23. September 2017, in gemeinsamer Trägerschaft mit „Dresden für Alle“ stattfindende Fachtag fördert den Austausch zwischen ehrenamtlichen Sprach(lern)begleitenden, DaF- und DaZ-Lehrkräften, Wissenschaftler*innen aus den Bereichen DaF und DaZ sowie Ansprechpartner*innen aus Verwaltung, Politik, und Wirtschaft. Neben Vernetzungs- und Unterstützungsmöglichkeiten werden auch die Rollen der Zielgruppen definiert. Weiterhin thematisiert werden die Qualifizierung der in der ehrenamtlichen Sprach(lern)begleitung Tätigen sowie die Qualitätssicherung des Deutscherwerbs Geflüchteter durch entsprechende Netzwerke. Ringvorlesung „Machtvolle Sprache(n)“

Die neue Ringvorlesung des ZfI im kommenden Wintersemester widmet sich dem Thema „Machtvolle Sprachen(n). Perspektiven auf sprachliche Bildung in Schule und Ausbildung“ und wird in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Lehrstuhl Deutsch als Fremdsprache der TU Dresden durchgeführt. Das Thema Sprache(n) und Macht ist ein prominentes, sowohl im Kontext von Deutsch als Fremdsprache als auch im Kontext von Deutsch als Zweitsprache. Die Ringvorlesung knüpft – bewusst interdisziplinär – an beide Perspektiven an. Zugesagt haben externe und interne Expert*innen aus den Sprach-, Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften, aus der Fremd-, Zweit- und Mehrsprachigkeitsdidaktik, aus der Erziehungswissenschaft, Politikdidaktik sowie dem Bereich mathematische Bildung und Gesellschaft. Alle Beitragenden werden befragt nach a) der Bedeutung von „Machtvolle Sprache(n)“ in ihrem spezifischen Forschungskontext, b) den Konsequenzen dieses Verständnisses für sprachliche Bildung in Schule und Ausbildung und c) nach wünschenswerten Veränderungen und Möglichkeiten (auf institutioneller, pädagogischer, methodisch-didaktischer, politischer Ebene). Konzipiert ist die Ringvorlesung als eine Veranstaltung, in deren Zentrum Dialog und Austausch stehen. Infos zur Ringvorlesung.

Visibly connected

The good start of the cooperation at the ZfI now becomes even more visible: In the context of the price of the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) for outstanding student initiatives in the programme “Welcome – Studierende engagieren sich für Flüchtlinge” (“Welcome – Students commit themselves to refugees”), which the student “Initiative Deutschkurse für Asylsuchende” (“Initiative German Courses for People searching for Asylum”, IDA) is going to get at the beginning of July, a film was made; through the conference “Taboo and Transgression: The Power of the (Un)Told in Post-Migrant Society” the ZfI now acts scientifically international and the new publication series make it possible that documentations and research results can practically be used in the future. The current newsletter will report on this and other news. The ZfI connects itself to scientists of the TU Dresden and other locations of Universities, but also to various partners from practice. Here, the newsletter also reports on current visibilities, e.g. the exhibition “Frieden machen” (“Making Peace”).

Becoming visible also means becoming concretely, comprehensibly and clearly perceptible. The basis for this is built through the new order and structure of the ZfI. Recently, an executive committee is in charge of the ZfI consisting of a divisional speaker (qua position) and up to four further full members who are appointed by the group of colleagues of the specific area. The current executive committee consists of Dr Christian Prunitsch (divisional speaker), Prof Dr Heike Greschke, Prof Dr Anke Langner (founding director of the ZfI), Prof Dr Joachim Scharloth and myself as head of research.

Important events of the last quarter, which were organised by the ZfI, will be discussed in the category “Reports”.

International conference “Taboo and Transgression. The Power of the (Un)Told in Post-Migrant-Society”

Under the patronage and organisation of the ZfI, the international conference “Taboo and Transgression. The Power of the (Un)Told” took place on 22^nd June 2017 in the lecture hall of the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB). The evening before, Dr Julia Meyer, employee of the SLUB and a cooperation partner of this event had already carried out a workshop about Iranian Poetry in two languages. In this workshop, the Iranian author Massumeh Ziai from Ulm spoke about taboos in literature and its translation. 

Then, on the day of the conference, six different lectures were presented on the subject of social transgressions of taboos and boundaries in integrational processes. Dr Simon Weaver of the Brunel University London spoke about taboos during and after the Brexit in Great Britain and focussed on satire and ambiguity about right-wing populist politics by this. In the following, Dr Rosa Lázaro Castellanos of the University of Barcelona presented the relationship between social and online Hate Speech, especially in the context of a European neo-racism. Next, Dr Sara Hägi-Mead and Laura Rind-Menzel of the TU Dresden illustrated the didactic transgressions as well as the appreciating elements of materials used in integration courses in Germany. In the afternoon, the conference’s participants discussed taboos in the intercultural communication between the German majority society and the Arabic population in Germany, initiated by the lecture of Abdelaziz Bouchara from the University Hassan II in Casablanca. Furthermore, Amanda Haynes from the University of Limerick in Ireland had to answer many interesting questions. The sociologist spoke about Hate Crime and stigmatisation and presented recent facts here, which she had extracted from her work with Non-profit organisations in Ireland. The last lecturer was Dr Monica van der Haagen Wulff from the University of Cologne. She spoke about migration discourses and the construction of fear and threat scenarios. After an intensive penal discussion concerning various topics together with all lecturers of the day, the conference was rounded off by a workshop with video clips and short lectures of the Syrian Firas Alshater, who lives in Berlin. The comedian, director and director of photography spoke about his experiences and feelings about his “new” life in Germany in a humorous manner and entertained the enthusiastic guests.

In this place, the ZfI wants to thank all participants and collaborators for your appreciating and diverse contributions that made a successful exchange on important and recent questions possible.

2^nd phase of the apprenticeship of the Refugee Law Clinic Dresden

The Refugee Law Clinic (RLC), belonging to the ZfI, was able to start the 2^nd phase of the apprenticeship for prospective student legal advisers in summer term 2017.

Part of the apprenticeship in this term were for example a series of workshops, case presentations of the participants as well as a colloquium. Parallel to the events of the university, it is possible for the participants to visit the advisory services of the Sächsischer Flüchtlingsrat e.V. in order to be introduced to their own upcoming task.

In the context of the workshop series, speakers from different fields, not coming from the TU Dresden, were invited. The university group Amnesty International Dresden for example presented the refugees’ most important countries of origin, deputies of the Refugee Law Clinic Leipzig spoke about their experiences and Dipl.-Psych. Sylvia Kummer of the outpatient department for trauma explained the possible consequences of a posttraumatic stress disorder and the things people must take care of while dealing with traumatised persons. After a work-placement of four weeks, the students shared their experiences with other participants through case presentations. At the end of the term, Dr Moritz Gieß will hold a colloquium with the subject of the investigation of facts during the asylum proceedings, which will be completed through an oral exam. If the participants pass this exam together with the written exam of the last term, they will be able to support refugees from October on as student legal advisers. More information on RLC.

Student initiative IDA one of the first three award winners of the “BMBF Welcome Price”

The student initiative IDA (Initiative Deutschkurse für Asylsuchende) at the TU Dresden has been elected to the group of the first three award winners of the “Preis des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung für herausragende studentische Initiativen im Programm Welcome – Studierende engagieren sich für Flüchtlinge” (“Price of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for outstanding student initiatives in the programme Welcome – Students commit themselves to refugees”). Which one of the first three places will be taken by IDA, will be announced at the presentation of awards on 5^th July 2017 in Berlin.

IDA emerged from a student group that organised language courses and ABC-tables for refugees in the initial reception centres on the premises of the TU Dresden voluntarily from September 2015 to April 2016. By now, the initiative arranges and coordinates voluntary offers of assistance from students for refugees and generates structures contributing to the integration of refugees and the intercultural exchange between refugees and students. The DAAD in the context of the programme “Welcome – Students commit themselves to Refugees” and the Student Foundation Dresden both sponsor IDA since April 2016.

Among others, one of the most important projects is the Buddy programme that brings student refugees and refugees who are capable of studying together with students from Universities in Dresden. In the “Language classes from refugees for students”, another sub programme of the initiative, refugees convey basics from their mother tongue and own culture to students from the TU Dresden (and other Universities) and thus become active in terms of a mutual exchange. Finally, IDA provides accompanying offers to learn the German language in different forms of conveying with the help of voluntary student teachers.

IDA is supported by the International Office of the TU Dresden (administration), the Center for Integration Research of the TU Dresden (coordination) and by committed employees of the faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies. More information on IDA.

New publication series at the ZfI

The ZfI launches two new publication series, which will be published electronically and open-access-based: On the one hand the series “Praxismaterialien des Zentrums für Integrationsstudien”, which shall convey research and event projects, and on the other hand the series “Theoretische Beiträge zur Integrationsforschung” that shall convey fundamental research within the scientific community.

Volume 1 of the “Praxismaterialien des Zentrums für Integrationsstudien” documents the 1^st DAFF-conference “Deutsch von Anfang an für Flüchtlinge fördern. DaF-Angebote für Geflüchtete im Spannungsfeld von Theorie und Praxis, Institution und Ehrenamt” (“Supporting German for Refugees from the very Start. Offering German as a Foreign Language to Refugees in the tense Atmosphere of Theory and Practice, Institution and Honorary Office”). It is written by Ann-Kathrin Kobelt and Anja Centeno García and will be published at the beginning of August 2017. In a short time, more information will be published on the website of the ZfI.

The category “Research” presents a current research project of the ZfI and discusses recent questions of research.

“SprIntegration”

Ann-Kathrin Kobelt's dissertation project “SprIntegration” reconstructs retro-, introspections and expectations of language and integration mediators (Sprach- und Integrationsmittler*innen, SprInt) and thus highlights a relatively new field of work with integrative potential for a society of immigration and admission.

The apprenticeship as a language and integration mediator is a reaction to the lack of plurilingual, intercultural and integrative offers in the German societies. Furthermore, the resources of people with a migratory background are appreciated and used through the apprenticeship and work as a language and integration mediator. The research project focusses on the question of how the expertise of the language and integration mediators can contribute to the integration discourse, in order to describe the challenges in the fields of integration more differentiated.  

It is the overall aim of the research project to reconstruct the attitudes of the language and integration mediators as experts of (their own) integration as well as the attitudes of the receiving society about people with a migration history of their own. Furthermore, these shall be brought into connection with each other and they shall be exploited for the integration research and practice.

In the context of the dissertation project, language and integration mediators will be interviewed as experts in their functions as interpreters, suppliers of information, assistants for specialists, consultants and custodians. In the matter of language and integration mediators and a successful integration, it will be focussed on linguistic aspects and aspects of the humanities.

News from the ZfI-Network

Scientists from all five faculties of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the TU Dresden and beyond that participate in the Center for Integration Research. In this category, news from this network will be presented.

Exhibition “Frieden machen” (“Making Peace”)

In June, the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung) will open an exhibition named “Frieden machen” (“Making Peace”) in the German Bundestag. After the opening at this popular place, the exhibition will make its way through German schools in order to give pupils a chance to occupy themselves with the international prevention of conflicts and the handling of corresponding challenges. A team of four curators, to whom also Prof Dr Anja Besand, member of the ZfI advisory council and its director of foundation, belonged, curated the exhibition. Already in March Anja Besand was appointed to the advisory council of the promotion programme “Weltoffenes Sachsen” by the secretary of state, Petra Köpping, and the Home Secretary, Markus Ulbig.

Conference “Emigration from Nazi-Occupied Europe to British Overseas Territories after 1933”

The conference will take place from 13^th to 15^th September at the Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies at the University of London. It is organised in cooperation with Dr Swen Steinberg, member of the ZfI and Research Assistant at the Chair of History of Saxony of the TU Dresden, and discusses the question of the global of flight after 1933. Conference “Kritik der Rassismus- und Linguizismuskritik” (“Criticism of the critique of racism and linguistic discrimination”)

The conference “Kritik der Rassimus- und Linguizismuskritik” takes place on 23^rd and 24^th September 2017 in Vienna and is designed among others by the member of the ZfI, Dr Hannes Schweiger (Department for German Studies of the University of Vienna, field of work German as a second language). 52^nd conference of the division Special Education of the German Educational Research Association (GERA) with the topic “Inklusion im Dialog: Fachdidaktik – Erziehungswissenschaft – Sonderpädagogik” (“Dialogues about Inclusion: Teaching methodology – educational studies – special education”)

Furthermore, we want to point to the pre-conference (09/20/2017, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm) for prospective scientists. In this context, methods for the analysis of inclusive settings for teaching and learning will be discussed especially. It is possible to provide own material for reflexion in order to approach the method as well as to take part in this discussion between experts.

Call for Papers for the international conference “Transcultural Adaptation” in November 2018

The conference project “Transcultural Adaption” focusses on the exploration of narrative and medial transformation processes at the interface between different cultures, thereby taking recent migration discourses and postcolonial problems in particular into account. By this, it will be scrutinized, how narrations change in the process of cultural transfer and how the involved cultural regions change through the encounter with the other at the same time. The international conference is organised by the Chair of English Literatures at the TU Dresden, conducted by Dr Wieland Schwanebeck. Cooperation of the ZfI with the project “Migration - Flucht - Bildung. Bildungsorte einer sich öffnenden Stadt” (“Migration - Flight - Education. Places of Education in an open City”) of the LAG pokuBi Sachsen e.V.

The Federal State Co-operation for Political and Cultural Education (LAG pokuBi) in Saxony is an established agency in the field of adult education and offers advanced vocational trainings for people working in the field of education since 15 years, thereby discussing questions of the pedagogic professionalism in the migration society. Besides the carrying out of educational events and conferences, the agency offers support for pedagogic organisations, helping in the process of their opening up for a migration society.

The project “Migration – Flucht – Bildung. Bildungsorte einer sich öffnenden Stadt” addresses Dresden with the aim to establish the topics of migration and flight in the context of global connections as educational subjects in as many educational institutions in Dresden as possible. By this, the aim is that these topics find their way into the educational work (and into the public educational spaces) as well as finding out, how this happens – in what way, from which perspective, with which aim? Furthermore, the project aims to open up educational offers (advanced vocational trainings, workshops) and educational institutions for migrants and for refugees in particular. This is about how access can be checked and be made easier, how relevant contents for this target group(s) can make their way into the educational work, which qualifications of the workers in the field of education are important here and how migrants themselves – in the sense of an active participation – can be integrated as (educational) actors. These questions will be discussed within an event series in autumn 2017, in which the ZfI will also take part. The first event will take place at the evening of 15^th September 2017 in the Stadtmuseum Dresden. More information will be published soon.

8 public lectures in the context of the international Summer School 2017 “Vocational Integration”

The international Summer School “Vocational Integration in Post-Migrant Society” takes place from 3^rd to 7^th July 2017. One of the biggest tasks for society as a whole in a country of immigration like Germany is the integration of people of any affiliation (ethnicity, age, sex etc.) in an inclusive society and particularly the challenge to use and to support the potentials of a pluralistic society. In this context, the field of integration and work in the post-migrant society is of enormous importance, because social participation can be made possible and, considering the lack of qualified personnel and the demographic development, the development of the labour market can be improved here.

The Summer School is designed and carried out by the Faculty of Education and the ZfI, in cooperation with the German Hygiene Museum (Deutsches Hygiene-Museum). The eight lectures (about integration on the labour market, linguistic-communicative requirements at one’s occupation, ethnic discrimination on the labour market) at the Summer School are public and can be visited by interested people. 2^nd conference “Deutsch für Geflüchtete von Anfang an” (“German for Refugees from the very Start”)

Taking place on 23^rd of September 2017 and in a common maintenance with “Dresden für Alle” (“Dresden for All”), the conference supports the exchange between people that voluntarily accompany language learners, teachers for German as a foreign and as a second language, scientists from this very field and contacts in administration, politics and economy. Beside the possibilities of networking and getting support, the roles of the target groups will be defined. Furthermore, the qualifications of the people that voluntarily accompany language learners and the quality assurance of the refugees’ acquisition of the German language through corresponding networks will be discussed. Lecture series “Machtvolle Sprache(n)” (“Powerful Language(s)”)

The new lecture series of the ZfI in the next winter term is dedicated to the topic “Machtvolle Sprache(n). Perspektiven auf sprachliche Bildung in Schule und Ausbildung” (“Powerful Language(s). Perspectives on linguistic education at school and apprenticeship“) and is carried out in cooperation with the Chair of German as a Foreign Language of the TU Dresden. The topic of language and power is popular in the context of German as a foreign as well as in the context of German as a second language. The lecture series – in a consciously interdisciplinary manner – picks up both perspectives. External and internal experts from the fields of the literary and cultural studies, the foreign, second language and multilingual teaching, the educational studies, the political didactics and the mathematical education and society will be present. All contributors will be questioned about a) the significance of “Powerful Language(s)” in their own specific research context, b) the consequences of this understanding for the linguistic education at school and apprenticeship and c) desirable changes and possibilities (on an institutional, pedagogical, methodical-didactical, political level).
