Dresden

Dr. Birgit Häse
Birgit Häse received her Ph.D in Sinology from Freie Universität Berlin. She has taught at the Institute for Modern China Studies at the University of Cologne and is currently Director of the Centre for East Asian Studies at the Dresden University of Technology. She specialises in the study on modern Chinese women literature and her research interest includes Chinese film, issues of identity and nationality, gender topics, and studies in contemporary China.

Dr. Carsten Storm
Carsten Storm earned his Ph.D. in Sinology from the University of Cologne. He was lecturer at the Institute for Modern China Studies at the University of Cologne and is now lecturer at the ICCD Project at the Dresden University of Technology. His research has centred upon mental perceptions of crime and justice in Qing Dynasty crime fiction. He currently works on a book on historicity and identity in Chinese historical novels. His major research interests covers genre issues in Chinese fiction, history of mentality, and aspects of identity.

Dipl.-Ing. Matthias Winker
Matthias Winker received his diploma on air traffic engineering at Dresden University of Technology. He further specialised within the field of international project management and financing. Since 2002 he works within the office of Vice-Rector of Science at Dresden University of Technology. He is responsible for conducting the project management of third-party funded projects connected to Middle and East Europe and Asia.

Sarah Grahl
Sarah Grahl is a M.A. candidate at the department of language, literature, and culture at the Dresden University of Technology. She currently works as a part-time student assistant of the ICCD Project at the Dresden University of Technology. Double majoring in North American Studies and Educational Science, her scholarly interests focus on cultural studies, linguistics, Chinese culture and language, multicultural education, and media education.

Limerick

Professor Dr. Bernadette Andreosso-O'Callaghan
Bernadette Andréosso-O'Callaghan is Jean Monnet Professor of European Economic Integration and Director of the Euro-Asia Centre, University of Limerick. Her major research interests lie in the area of economic integration, with a particular focus on EU-Asian economic relations, and on structural change in European and Asian countries. Her latest publications include: The Economics of European Agriculture (McMillan/Palgrave, 2003) and Regional Integration - Europe and Asia Compared (co-edited with W. Moon, Ashgate, 2005).

Bernadette received a BSc in Economics in 1981 from the Université de Franche Comté, a Diploma in European Studies from the College of Europe, Brugge (in 1982), and an MSc in Economics from the Université de Paris, Panthéon Sorbonne (in 1983). She completed a PhD at the Université des Sciences et Techniques of Lille in 1986. She has been a Research Associate at the European Parliament (Luxembourg), and has gained a wide experience of teaching in various European and Asian Universities, including Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Seoul National University and Hanoi University (Vietnam).

John Lannon, MA
John Lannon is a part-time researcher and lecturer with the Euro-Asia Centre at the University of Limerick, Ireland. He holds a B.Eng. (Electronic) degree from NUI Galway, and an MA (Peace and Development Studies) from the University of Limerick. He is currently working on his PhD with the Praxis Centre for Information and Technology in Conflict Resolution, Development and Human Rights at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK. His research topic is the use of information and technology by human rights organisations and networks in southern Africa.

John has over 15 years experience working in the software design and development industry. Since joining academia in 2002 he has lectured in Information Systems at a number of third level institutions, including the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and Rhodes University, Grahamstown (South Africa). He has also presented a number of lectures and seminar papers on technology and development, and social movements.

Dr. Kate Boulay
Kate Boulay teaches cultural studies and visual cultural studies at the University of Limerick. Her research interests include visual culture, the commodification of human biological material, and race and ethnicity.

John Corcoran B.Soc.Sc. (Hons) P.G.C.E. MA. F.R.E.S
John Corcoran lectures in Urban Economics at the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT). He has published in the field of International Economics, particularly relating to Foreign Direct Investment trends in various regions of the EU. In recognition of this specialist expertise he was appointed as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Economics to the University of Limerick in 2004 and he contributes significantly to the work of UL Economics departments in the fields of International and EU Economics. A graduate of the University of Birmingham, he has completed postgraduate degrees at the University of Birmingham and the University of Newcastle. Before returning to his childhood home in Ireland , between 1992 and 2000 he was the Head of Economics and Accountancy at the University of Sunderland. He is a a member of the Royal Economic Society, and is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Public Sector Management

Beijing

Professor Dr. Fanchen Meng

Fanchen Meng is Professor for Intercultural and International Management and Head of the Department of Applied Economics in the School of Management and Economics at Beijing Institute of Technology. He studied German Culture and Language at Guangzhou University of Foreign Studies, Management Science at Beijing Institute of Technology. He earned his Doctoral Degree (Dr. rer. pol) at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus. He was visiting scholar at TU Berlin, University of Karlsruhe and visiting Professor at University of Paderborn.

His main research interests are in the fields of intercultural management and intercultural communication, intercultural conflict, international alliance in innovation, and intercultural project management. He works as intercultural consultant and gives intercultural training courses both for Chinese and German Managers. His recent publications are Intercultural Conflict in Sino-German Joint Ventures - Solution Strategies (2003), Intercultural Competence in the context of globalization (2004), International Alliance of R&D (2004), Intercultural Communication as Success Factor for the International Alliance of R&D (2004), China on the Way of Modernization - Perspectives from Chinese View (2005).

Han Zhilong
Han Zhilong is a student in Beijing Institute of Technology, majoring in International Economics and Trade. From sept.2006 he will start his master lessons at school of Management & Economics in BIT. He has a great interest in Intercultural Management and will deal with this matter later in his master studies, supervised by Prof. Dr. Meng. Currently he works as a part-time student assistant of the ICCD Project at BIT. He hopes he can help a lot, meanwhile a lot can be learned from this project.

Dhaka

Professor Ishrat Shamim
Professor Ishrat Shamim is former Chairperson of the Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka, from 2000. She obtained her Masters in Sociology in 1970 from Dhaka University securing first class first position and joined the Department of Sociology in 1973 as lecturer. She was awarded Research Fellowship by the Agricultural Development Council and obtained her Masters in Applied Sociology and Anthropology from Ateneo de Manila, Philippines in 1980. For more than three decades, she has been involved both as a teacher and a researcher on gender issues, focusing on disparity and inequality of women in Bangladesh. She teaches Research Methodology and Gender Violence and Development.

Professor Shamim's particular interest is in the field of women and child rights, legal issues and violence against women in all its forms. Some of her recent books based on research studies are: Mapping of Missing, Kidnapped and Trafficked Children and Women: Bangladesh Perspective (2002); Rural Women in Poverty: NGO Interventions for Alleviation (1996); Widows in Rural Bangladesh: Issues and Concerns (1995) and Child Domestic Work in Dhaka: A Study of the Exploitative Situation (1995).

She is the founder president of the Centre for Women and Children Studies (CWCS) and members of many national and international organizations.

Professor Dr. Mahbub Uddin Ahmed
He is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Dhaka. He also teaches part-time at the Department of Psychology. He served as an adjunct Professor in the MBA Program at the Institute of Business Studies, University of Dhaka as well as in the BBA Program at Independent University and American International University-Bangladesh. He taught introductory sociology, sociology of family and ethnic relations at York University, Toronto from 1976 to 1985 in various capacities. He also taught introductory sociology at Dalhousie University, Halifax from 1975 to 1976 as a Teaching Assistant. He was the course director at the Marxist Institute, Toronto. He also served as a Provost of Ziaur Rahman Hall, University of Dhaka from 1977 to 2002. Dr. Ahmed graduated from the University of Dhaka with B. A. (Hons.) and M. A. in Sociology in 1969 and 1970 respectively and began his teaching career as a lecturer in 1972. He also received his M. A. and Ph.D. degrees from Dalhousie University and York University in Canada in 1976 and 1985 respectively. He did his Master’s thesis on the political elite under Professor T. B. Bottomore, and Ph.D. on Class and Ethnic Consciousness under Professor Gordon Darroch. He was a recipient of Dalhouse University Fellowship and Teaching Assistantship, York University Entrance Scholarship and Teaching Assistantship, Canada Council research grant and Ministry of Multiculturalism, Government of Ontario research grant. His main areas of teaching and research include Marxist theory, social change, urbanization, population, gender relations, conflict management and poverty.

Professor S. Aminul Islam
He is currently Professor of Sociology at the University of Dhaka. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, National University, Bangladesh. He did his BA (Hons.) and MA in sociology from the University of Dhaka and conducted postgraduate research at the University of Southampton, England as a Commonwealth Scholar. Aminul has conducted research in Bangladesh on a variety of issues including governance, political culture, political parties and democratic transition, media, poverty and rural livelihoods, gender and education. His main areas of teaching are sociology of development and sociological theory. He has published about fifty research articles locally as well as internationally. He has authored or co-authored or edited seven books including Transitions in Development Theory (in Bangla, Dibhyo, 2004), Local Governance and Community Capacities: Search for New Frontiers (UPL, 2002), An Introduction to Sociology (in Bangla, Bangladesh Open University, 2001), An Introduction to Behavioural Science (UPL, 2000), Political Culture, Political Parties and the Democratic Transition in Bangladesh (Academic, 1996).

Khalid Tanvir

Khalid Tanvir is a computer science graduate. Next semester he will start his MBA classes. He is very interested in the field of intercultural management and will work on international cooperation. He is a full time student assistant of the ICCD Project in the Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka. His job is web development, networking and system maintenance.

Ferdoush Hasanur Rahaman Bhuiyan

Ferdoush Hasanur Rahaman Bhuiyan completes his graduation in Computer Science. He has a keen interest in Web developing and Networking. He loves to read, travel and likes to interact with new people, new customs and new nature on Earth. He is full time Student Assistant of ICCD Project in the Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka. His job is web development, networking, system maintenance and enhance the student’s computer skills.

Antje Löser
Antje Löser was a M.A. candidate at the department of sociology at the Dresden University of Technology writing her M.A. thesis about the Chinese Student Community in Dresden. She worked as a part-time student assistant of the ICCD Project at the Dresden University of Technology from April 04 until May 05. Her scholarly interests focus on intercultural education and Asian culture. She currently works at AGEF "Association of experts in the fields of migration and development cooperation (Berlin), a non-profit limited company focusing on the realisation of programmes aiming at the profesional reintegration of experts from developing countries.

Martin Rudolph
Martin Rudolph is a M.A. candidate at the department of language, literature, and culture at the Dresden University of Technology. He worked as a part-time student assistant of the ICCD Project at the Dresden University of Technology from June 05 until March 06. His scholarly interests focus on German, North-American, and Asian culture and literature. Studying German literature and American studies as main subjects, he focuses primarily on medieval, classical, and romantic writing and its connection to the present.

Rashid Shariar Nasim
Rashid Shariar Nasim is a Computer Science Graduate. He worked with RI-SOL (American NGO). He is interested in Open Source, Networking and Web Development section. Currently he is emphasizing his knowledge in Linux. He was a full time Postgraduate and Student Assistant at the Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka.

Sun Wei was a student at Beijing Institute of Technology, majoring in International Economics and Trade.
